Two Vehicles Collide on Busy Newport Road
Chaos hit Medina Way in Newport this afternoon when a Citroen and a German-registered Mercedes crashed at the slip road off Riverway. The smash triggered a full emergency response, with police, two ambulance crews, and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service rushing to the scene.
Heavy Traffic and Road Closures
Traffic is crawling northbound as a result of the collision. Meanwhile, police have shut the southbound carriageway to help recover one of the damaged vehicles. Despite initial rumours, neither car rolled over in the crash.
Injuries Reported but Not Serious
Three people were taken to St Mary’s Hospital. Fortunately, none are believed to have serious injuries. Paramedics treated the drivers and passengers at the scene. The German Mercedes reportedly pulled out into the lane of the Island-registered Citroen, causing the collision.
Emergency Crews Swift to Act
Firefighters from Newport ensured both vehicles were made safe at the site. Police continue to investigate the cause of the smash as traffic struggles to move past the busy junction.
