UK Government Charters Flight to Get Brits Home from Jamaica
About 140 British travellers stuck in Jamaica will fly home on a special charter flight organised by the UK Government and travel giant TUI Airways.
The flight departs Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport and lands at London Heathrow on 7 May 2020. Priority seats are being given to vulnerable Brits, including those over 70 and people with medical needs.
How to Book Your Spot on the Flight
British travellers keen to return on this flight should head to the FCO Travel Advice Jamaica Return to the UK page to register. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCO) is also bringing back Jamaican nationals with Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK who’ve lived in Britain within the last year.
Officials Promise Support and Urge Quick Action
“This is our latest flight from the Caribbean. By partnering with TUI Airways, we are going to get around 140 British travellers home from Jamaica to be with their families at this challenging time,” said Baroness Sugg, Minister for the Caribbean. “Our staff in Jamaica will continue to make sure any Brits not on these flights get the support they need.”
Asif Ahmad, UK High Commissioner to Jamaica, added: “This flight will help British travellers stuck in Jamaica get back to the UK. I encourage all those with an interest to register now as it is unlikely that there will be any further charter flights. I’d also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Jamaican authorities for enabling us to get people home during this crisis.”
Part of a Wider UK Rescue Mission
- This flight follows recent government-chartered flights from the Bahamas, Cuba, and Guyana.
- Across the Caribbean, UK missions have helped over 11,000 Brits return home via commercial and charter flights, including 4,000+ from Jamaica.
- TUI is using the flight’s outbound leg from the UK to Jamaica to reposition cruise ship crew, helping keep costs down and maximise passenger seats.
- The UK Government has set aside up to £75 million for special charter flights to priority countries, focusing on the most vulnerable travellers, as part of Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab’s plan announced on 30 March.
