Co-op to Launch 24-Hour Grocery Delivery in Major UK Cities
The Co-op is set to shake up UK shopping with a brand-new 24-hour grocery delivery service. Launching this September, the round-the-clock shop run aims to cater to night owls, shift workers, busy parents, and anyone who needs a late-night bite.
Starting in Manchester, Leeds, and London
The new service will be available via Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats in key cities like Manchester, Leeds, and London. These hotspots were picked because of high online orders outside traditional shopping hours, and plenty of workers on late shifts.
High Demand for Late-Night Deliveries
A recent survey revealed a massive appetite for overnight grocery deliveries. Around 40% of fast-delivery users said they’d choose an 11pm to 5am slot if it was offered. The figure jumps to 50% for 18-44-year-olds, with 18-24s topping the list of keen customers.
Work schedules are the main driver behind this trend. Around six million UK adults told researchers they’d use 24-hour grocery deliveries because they work odd hours or shifts.
Co-op’s Vision for Flexible Shopping
Chris Conway, Co-op’s e-commerce director, said:
“With a convenience store in every postal area across the UK, we’re perfectly placed to meet local shopper demands. This new 24-hour delivery service is part of our drive to evolve and offer the best online service possible — whenever and however people want to shop.”
The Co-op hopes the service will serve everyone from overnight workers to busy families and night-time shoppers, making grocery shopping easier and more accessible nationwide.
The poll was conducted by Opinion Matters, interviewing 2,000 UK adults in mid-August, highlighting the strong demand for flexible grocery delivery options.
