Five People Rescued from Blaze at Bermondsey Flat

Firefighters raced to a flat fire on Preston Close, Bermondsey, in the early hours, rescuing five people – including a child. The fierce blaze damaged most of a two-roomed ground floor flat in a residential block.

Heroic Rescues Across Multiple Floors

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews saved two adults and a child from the second floor. Another two adults were pulled to safety from the first floor. All were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service paramedics.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers gave vital fire survival guidance to residents on the first and second floors on how to stay safe until firefighters arrived.

Swift Response and Ongoing Investigation

  • Fire called in at 1.20am and under control by 2.30am
  • Six fire engines and 40 firefighters from six stations fought the blaze
  • One firefighter injured during the rescue effort

The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police Service.
