Fire Ravages Two Shops After Discarded Cigarette Sparks Blaze
A violent fire tore through two single-storey shops in the same building this morning, causing significant damage. Thankfully, around 10 people managed to flee before the fire brigade arrived. No injuries were reported.
Blaze Likely Caused by Discarded Cigarette
London Fire Brigade investigators believe the inferno started accidentally when a cigarette butt landed in waste piled at the front of the shops. The waste included cardboard packaging that quickly caught fire.
“The fire originated in waste material stored at the front of the building,” said a Brigade spokesperson. “Firefighters faced a well-developed fire on arrival and saw it had spread into both shops.”
“It’s vital smokers ensure their cigarettes are completely out when finished. Always cool your smoking materials before emptying ashtrays—preferably soak them before tossing in a bin.”
Firefighters Battle Blaze in Under an Hour
The Brigade received the call at 10:24am and had the fire under control by 11:18am. Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters from Southall, Ealing, and Hillingdon stations tackled the fierce flames.
