Kent Fire Service Shines in National Inspection
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has smashed it in a recent independent inspection by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS). The force was hailed “excellent” for keeping the public safe and stands out as one of the UK’s top fire services.
Strong Ratings Across the Board
Last summer, inspectors scrutinised how KFRS tackles emergencies and supports its staff. The verdict? A solid ‘Good’ rating for both:
- Effectiveness: Quick emergency response and strong public protection.
- People: How the service treats its employees.
KFRS didn’t stop there – it scored an ‘Outstanding’ for Efficiency, which measures how well public funds, equipment, and resources are used.
Leadership and Culture Get Top Marks
The report praised KFRS for “excellent performance in keeping people safe” and spotlighted its “outstanding promotion of the right values and culture.” Senior leaders were applauded as role models who “embody a positive vision.” Inspectors found a “positive working culture throughout the service,” with staff empowered and confident to challenge when needed.
Leaders React to High Praise
“I’m proud that an independent body has recognised our hard work,” said Ann Millington, Chief Executive of KFRS. “Our teams earned ‘outstanding’ for efficiency, culture, and risk understanding. But we won’t rest on our laurels – continuous improvement is key.”
“I’m proud Kent Fire is among the UK’s best,” added Nick Chard, Chairman of Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority. “The team’s dedication saves lives and delivers a service the region can be proud of.”
His Majesty’s Inspector of Fire and Rescue Services Roy Wilsher said, “Kent Fire understands risk inside out, prioritises well, and shows clear, innovative planning.”
