Massive Lorry Blaze Rocks St Ives
Firefighters raced to London Road, St Ives, at 8.20pm on Tuesday after a lorry erupted in flames.
20+ Firefighters Battle Intense Blaze
More than 20 firefighters from Huntingdon, Papworth, Gamlingay, Cambridge, and Ramsey, including a water carrier crew, tackled the fierce fire. Wearing breathing apparatus, they used hose reels to bring the blaze under control.
No Injuries but Major Clean-Up Ahead
Thankfully, no one was hurt. Crews remain at the scene, damping down hot spots and ensuring safety.
However, the lorry was carrying chemicals, demanding a specialist clean-up. Experts warn this will take several hours, followed by road resurfacing due to damage.
London Road Closure to Cause Disruption
Expect London Road to be partially closed until early Wednesday. Commuters and school run parents should plan alternative routes, as access to St Ives and the A1307 will be affected.
