New Exit at Blackheath Station to Boost London Marathon Access
London is buzzing with excitement as the London Marathon hits the streets this Sunday, April 21. To cope with thousands of runners flooding the capital, Southeastern Railway has rolled out major upgrades at Blackheath Station, the crucial start point for the gruelling 26-mile race. A brand-new exit is opening to ease the rush and get runners straight to the blue start line without delays.
Southeastern Steps Up Services for Marathon Day
Steve White, Managing Director of Southeastern, announced the new exit on social media platform X, saying: “To help @LondonMarathon runners this year we have added another exit at @Se_Railway Blackheath station to help get you to the blue start line.”
But that’s not all. Southeastern is also running extra trains from London hotspots like Charing Cross, Waterloo East, London Bridge, and Victoria. This means marathon participants will have smoother, quicker journeys to Blackheath on race day.
Free Travel for Registered Runners and Crowd Control Measures
In a generous move, registered runners holding valid race numbers can travel for free from key London stations including London Bridge, Cannon Street, Charing Cross, Waterloo East, and Victoria—provided they have a valid train ticket for their full trip in and out of London on marathon day.
A Southeastern spokesperson confirmed additional staff and temporary exits will be deployed at Blackheath Station to combat overcrowding and streamline commuter flow, ensuring everyone gets to where they need to be without hassle.
Ready for Race Day
With Southeastern and marathon organisers working hand-in-hand, this year’s London Marathon is set to be a well-oiled, unforgettable event. Runners and spectators should keep an eye on Southeastern’s travel updates for the smoothest marathon experience yet.
