Brighton Council Pumps £15K Into BME Groups
Brighton & Hove City Council has thrown £15,000 behind nine community groups in its latest BME Engagement Fund round. Launched in 2020, the fund aims to boost the wellbeing of Black, Minority Ethnic (BME) residents and champion fairness across the city.
Grants of Up to £2,000 Fuel Vital Projects
Groups were handed grants maxing at £2,000 to cover operational costs and activities. Projects include 123 for children and families with a Japanese heritage, offering language lessons and cultural workshops. Meanwhile, A Seat At The Table will support BME families with kids who have disabilities, focusing on special educational needs and disability (SEND), alongside wellbeing sessions and workshops.
Community Fund Supports Grassroots Groups
The BME Engagement Fund is part of the council’s wider Communities Fund, aimed at local voluntary and not-for-profit groups earning up to £20,000 annually. Applications open from April to October, with another BME-specific funding round slated for later this year.
Brighton Aims for Stronger, Fairer Communities
The council hopes this cash injection will strengthen Brighton’s BME communities, promoting fairness and improving lives citywide. It’s about empowering grassroots organisations to create lasting change and build resilience where it matters most.
