Blaze Breaks Out at Hackney Hotel Housing Asylum Seekers
Flames tore through the New Pembury Hotel in Finsbury Park just after 1am today, sparking a major emergency response. The hotel, which shelters asylum seekers, was swiftly evacuated with no reported injuries.
Firefighters Rush to the Scene
London Fire Brigade scrambled six fire engines and a turntable ladder to tackle thick smoke billowing from the building on Seven Sisters Road. The London Ambulance Service and Met Police also responded quickly, securing the area and assisting with evacuations.
Roads Shut and Transport Disrupted
Seven Sisters Road remains closed as officers keep a tight cordon, redirecting traffic and causing widespread disruption. Transport for London confirms multiple bus routes—including the 29, 253, 254, 259, N29, N253, and N279—are delayed or diverted. Commuters are urged to find alternative routes.
Investigation Underway as Cause Remains Unknown
A Met Police source said: “An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the fire. Emergency services responded swiftly, and all occupants were safely evacuated. We are grateful for the cooperation of residents and those affected.”
Authorities have yet to label the blaze suspicious. Forensic teams are preparing to examine the scene in detail. Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke columns as firefighters battled the flames.
