Three Children Rescued from Forest Hill Flat Blaze with No Working Smoke Alarms

Firefighters raced to a Forest Hill flat where a fire broke out on the second floor, damaging part of the property. Shockingly, the flat had no working smoke alarms.

Heroic Rescue

Wearing breathing apparatus, the brigade saved three children trapped inside the flat. Emergency services treated the youngsters on site before rushing them to hospital as a precaution.

One adult had already escaped before firefighters arrived.

Fire Crew Warns on Smoke Alarms

Station Manager Clinton Walsh, present at the scene, slammed the lack of safety devices: “There were no working smoke alarms in the property.”

“Everyone should fit multiple smoke alarms and a heat alarm in the kitchen to catch fires early and save lives,” he added.

Swift Response and Cause

  • The London Fire Brigade was called at 11:21am and had the fire under control by 12:09pm.
  • Four fire engines and 21 firefighters from Forest Hill, Lewisham, Beckenham, and West Norwood stations tackled the blaze.
  • The fire likely started accidentally when a halogen heater ignited clothes on a nearby airer.
