MP Faces Sexual Misconduct Probe as Tory Whip Withdrawn
The MP for Somerton and Frome is currently being treated for “severe shock and stress” after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced. He described the ordeal as “sheer hell.”
Investigation Launched by Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme
The Conservative MP has had the Tory whip withdrawn while Parliament’s Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme (ICGS) investigates claims against him. The probe follows an exposé by the Sunday Times and focuses on alleged inappropriate behaviour, which the MP vehemently denies.
The ICGS, the world’s first parliamentary body of its kind, aims to stamp out misconduct in the parliamentary workplace. A Whips Office spokesperson confirmed the whip’s suspension pending the inquiry. The MP is believed to have been advised to avoid the parliamentary estate during this time.
MP Denies Allegations, But Damage Done
Speaking to The Telegraph, the MP said: “I have enormous amounts of defence, but unfortunately the way that things are means that doesn’t come out first. I have heard nothing whatsoever from the Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme. I’m sorry, I can’t comment any further.”
