Smoke and Burning Smell Terrify Witnesses on Second Landing
On its second try, the aircraft appeared to land smoothly. But as it taxied towards the terminal, emergency crews swarmed the runway amid reports of smoke and a burning stench.
Plane spotter Stephen Uden said, “The plane turned off the runway and then there was a puff of smoke. The plane then just stopped. Fire engines were front and back. They were trying to find if it had hot brakes or hot wheels.”
Another enthusiast, Liam Smith, backed up the accounts, adding he could smell burning as the plane settled.
Passengers Safe After Hour-Long Wait to Disembark
After shutting down the engine, the aircraft was towed to the terminal. Passengers disembarked safely just before 5:30 pm local time — an hour after landing.
