Blaze Breaks Out in London Flat: Two Men Rescued by Firefighters
Three fire engines and around 15 firefighters raced to a London flat after a fire broke out late in the evening. Crews equipped with breathing apparatus rescued two men trapped on the first floor.
The London Ambulance Service assessed the men on the scene. The flat suffered partial fire damage, with cooking left unattended believed to be the cause.
Firefighters Issue Urgent Cooking Safety Warning
“Never leave cooking unattended on the cooker or hob. You should have working smoke alarms in every room where a fire can start, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen and the bathroom. They should be tested regularly,” a London Fire Brigade spokesperson warned.
Top Tips to Stop Kitchen Fires
- Don’t leave cooking unattended on the hob or grill. If you must leave, turn off the heat.
- Feeling drained, drunk, or drowsy? Order a takeaway instead of risking a fire.
- Keep your oven, hob, cooker hood, extractor fan and grill clean to prevent grease fires.
- Always double-check that cookers and hobs are turned off when done cooking.
Rapid Response from London Fire Brigade
The Brigade was alerted at 9.07pm and had the fire under control by 9.30pm. Firefighters from Lambeth, Dowgate, and Brixton stations tackled the blaze with speed and professionalism.
