Ex-Nottinghamshire Cops Deliver Christmas Hope to Ukraine
Two retired Nottinghamshire Police officers have taken matters into their own hands this Christmas, heading to war-ravaged Ukraine to deliver toys and vital supplies to children caught up in conflict.
Convoy of Hope Hits Lviv
Simon Blincow and Rob Taylor joined a convoy of pick-up trucks and ambulances carrying essentials like electricity generators, clothing, toys, and more.
They visited the Ridni children’s home in Lviv, western Ukraine, handing over 80 winter coats, paints, cuddly toys, sketchbooks, and Lego to youngsters displaced by Russia’s invasion back in February.
Support Vehicles Staying in Ukraine
The convoy’s vehicles are remaining in Ukraine, set to head east and south to bolster ongoing humanitarian efforts.
Simon’s Fourth Trip, Driven by Heart
This was Simon’s fourth trip delivering aid inside Ukraine. Previously, he travelled with former officer Martin Foster. The team plans more missions in 2023.
Simon, once a sergeant in Nottinghamshire’s roads policing unit, explained his motivation:
“Like everyone, I was moved by the scenes on the news and wanted to put my policing experience to good use. Ukraine desperately needs ambulances, pick-ups, and 4x4s to aid humanitarian work.”
He added,
“The visit to the children’s home was truly moving. The kids were overjoyed to receive simple things like crayons and books—it really pulled at the heartstrings.”
Community Backing from Home
Simon revealed strong support from Nottinghamshire Police colleagues past and present:
“The reaction from the force has been brilliant. Donations were collected via pick-up points and passed on to us.”
