Chelsea FC hit hard by fresh sanctions – no ticket sales, transfers or merch allowed!

Sanctions slam Chelsea’s finances

The club will continue operating under a special licence but stands to lose big. New ticket sales are banned. Player transfers and fresh contracts are off the table. Merchandise sales? Also banned. Only catering services get the green light.

The billionaire owner behind the club since 2003 won’t be allowed to sell Chelsea either – at least not for now. And if the sale ever goes through, he won’t profit from it.

Liz Truss slams oligarchs over Ukraine war

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss laid into the owner and other sanctioned Russian oligarchs, accusing them of being “complicit in aggression”. She said: “The blood of the Ukrainian people is on their hands.”

“Today’s sanctions show once again that oligarchs and kleptocrats have no place in our economy or society. We will not stop in this mission to ramp up the pressure on the Putin regime and choke off funds to his brutal war machine,” Truss added.

Travel and asset bans bite

  • Oligarchs banned from entering or leaving the UK.
  • UK assets frozen solid.
  • Private jets grounded – Abramovich’s jet barred from UK airspace whether he’s on board or not.

Ministers promise to shield Chelsea from being “unnecessarily harmed”.

Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries tweeted: “Our priority is to hold those who have enabled the Putin regime to account. We know this brings uncertainty, but we will work with the league and clubs to keep football being played while ensuring sanctions hit those intended.”

Takeover interest still buzzing

Despite the chaos, on Wednesday some 20 credible bidders eyed a Chelsea takeover, including UK businessman Nick Candy. The Blues’ future hangs in the balance – but the saga is far from over.
