Sunak Urges Europe to Tackle Illegal Migration, AI, and Russian Threats at Granada Summit
Rishi Sunak Joins Forces with Italy’s Meloni to Crack Down on Migration
At today’s European Political Community meeting in Granada, Spain, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is leading the charge against illegal migration, AI risks, and Russian aggression. Co-chairing a session on illegal migration and organised crime with Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Sunak called for stronger, united action to stop the surge of illegal migrants flooding into Europe.
Sunak will unveil fresh bilateral deals with Belgium, Bulgaria, and Serbia aimed at boosting intelligence sharing and joint operations. This signals the UK’s serious commitment to dismantling criminal networks behind clandestine entry to the UK.
Backing Ukraine Amid Rising Russian Threats
New intel suggests Russia might be using sea mines in the Black Sea. Sunak stressed the UK’s support for Ukraine, pushing for increased delivery of air defence systems, fighter jets, and long-range artillery.
The UK is also pledging £44 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, including £34 million for shelter and warm clothing, and £10 million for electricity to keep homes powered through winter.
Sunak Puts AI Regulation on Europe’s Radar
During a high-profile roundtable on Artificial Intelligence, Sunak urged European leaders to harness AI’s benefits while enforcing smart, responsible regulations. “We must face these borderless challenges together,” he said, highlighting the need for unified rules across the continent.
£500 Million Winter Lifeline for Ukraine and Wider European Security
The UK is funneling £500 million via the World Bank to support three million Ukrainian households with vital winter payments. Sunak also reaffirmed Britain’s role in European security, signalling readiness to respond to troubles in Kosovo and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Together with Italy’s Meloni, Sunak’s focus on cracking down on organised immigration crime and illegal border crossings marks a new, tougher UK stance at the heart of Europe’s fight against migration and security threats.
