Woolwich Blaze: Man Hospitalised After Fierce Flat Fire
A man was rushed to hospital following a major fire that ripped through a flat in Woolwich in the early hours of October 12. The blaze erupted in a mid-terraced house on Brookhill Road, which had been converted into multiple flats.
Firefighters Battle Flames for Nearly Two Hours
The London Fire Brigade scrambled eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters to the scene after receiving the first emergency call at 3:50 a.m. Crews from Plumstead, Greenwich, and East Greenwich fire stations fought the fire for almost two hours before gaining control shortly after 5:20 a.m.
Firefighters used a 32-metre turntable ladder to tackle the blaze from above, helping to limit further damage.
Flat Destroyed, Roof Damaged, Residents Evacuate
- The fire completely destroyed a second-floor flat.
- Half the roof sustained serious damage.
- Approximately 14 nearby residents evacuated before firefighters arrived.
One man was treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service and taken to hospital. His condition remains unknown.
Fire Cause Under Investigation
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters tackled a fire at a mid-terraced house converted into flats on Brookhill Road in Woolwich. One second-floor flat was destroyed by the fire and half of the roof was damaged. Around 14 people left two neighbouring properties before the brigade arrived.”
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service. More details will be released as the probe continues.
