Two Dead, Three Seriously Injured After Terrorist Knife Rampage Near London Bridge
Tragedy struck near London Bridge on Friday as a terror attack left two people dead and three seriously wounded. The horrific stabbing incident unfolded just before 2pm on 29 November.
Knife Attack at London Bridge
Police were scrambled to a premises close to London Bridge, EC1, after reports of a stabbing at 1.58pm. Emergency services, including the Metropolitan Police and City of London officers, rushed to the scene.
Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu confirmed: “At approximately 2pm, police responded to a stabbing near London Bridge. A male suspect was shot dead by specialist armed officers at the scene.”
Several victims suffered injuries during the attack. Basu added that the suspect had a device strapped to him, which was later confirmed as a hoax explosive.
Attack Declared Terrorist Incident
The police confirmed the stabbing has been declared a terrorist incident, with the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command now leading the investigation.
“We responded as though it was terror-related, and continue to keep an open mind about the motive,” said Basu. “Extensive cordons remain in place, and we urge the public to avoid the area for safety.”
Police Commissioner Speaks Out
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick expressed heartbreak and anger at the attack. “I am deeply saddened that our city has again been targeted by terrorism,” she said.
She revealed that two victims have tragically died, while three others remain hospitalised with serious injuries.
“The attack started at Fishmongers’ Hall, and police confronted the suspect within five minutes of the call,” Dick stated. “We are working round the clock to support the victims and their families, and to understand if anyone else was involved.”
The Commissioner praised emergency services and members of the public who showed courage during the attack. She urged residents to stay vigilant and cooperate with police.
