Drunk Driver Michael Flash Caught in 85mph Police Chase in Peterborough
Michael Flash, 40, tore through Peterborough streets in a black BMW X5 at dangerous speeds while drunk. The harrowing high-speed chase unfolded just after 11:30pm on 20 September, with officers in an unmarked car hot on his tail.
Wild Ride Through Residential Streets
- Flash overtook a bus at speed on Lincoln Road, sparking the police pursuit.
- He was spotted and chased down on St Paul’s Road, where he suddenly sped off when officers tried to stop him.
- He smashed the limits, hitting 65mph on St Paul’s Road and 85mph on Fulbridge Road – both roads capped at 30mph.
- He braked sharply, whipped into Sheridan Road, then accelerated to 50mph and 60mph on Chaucer Road without slowing for speed bumps.
- Flash struggled to control the BMW as he zipped through chicanes, risking pedestrians and other road users.
Violent End to the Chase
The pursuit ended at Gray Court when two passengers jumped from the speeding car, hurling glass bottles at officers. Flash was tackled and arrested after being hit with a Taser.
A breath test revealed Flash had 76 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath—more than double the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Justice Served at Cambridge Crown Court
On Wednesday, Flash pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving under the influence. He was slammed with nine months behind bars, disqualified from driving for five years and seven months, and ordered to take an extended driving test.
PC Malachi Creedon said: “Flash put innocent people in serious danger by not only getting behind the wheel of a car while drunk but also driving at dangerous speeds on urban roads. We will always look to deal with dangerous and drunk drivers robustly and this sentence shows how seriously these offences are also treated by the courts.”
