Flat Shut Down After Residents’ Complaints
Kent Police took swift action against a troublesome flat in The Grove after repeated complaints from locals. On Friday 4 November 2022, Medway Magistrates’ Court approved a three-month closure order on the property.
Harsh Penalties for Trespassers
The closure makes it a criminal offence for anyone to enter the flat during this period. Anyone caught breaking the order faces a fine and could spend up to 51 weeks behind bars.
Police Lock Down Troubled Property
Officers confirmed the housing association-owned flat is now empty and secured against any unauthorised access. A warning sign has been placed on the door to deter entry.
Tenant Behaviour Sparked Action
PC Jo Hammond from Gravesend Community Safety Unit said, “We received multiple calls about this address over several months. Locals suffered abuse from visitors, found discarded hypodermic needles, and dealt with disturbances both inside and outside the flat.”
“Officers visited the property repeatedly and issued warnings to tenants. Despite this, their behaviour did not improve. They have now been evicted, and Tower Estates housing association has taken possession.”
“We used powers under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to get this closure order. Persistent anti-social behaviour ruins communities. We hope this action reassures residents that such conduct won’t be tolerated.”
