Jurors Find Alexander Rawson Guilty of Killing Elderly Woman
A jury at the Old Bailey has ruled that 63-year-old Alexander Rawson attacked and killed Eileen Dean less than two weeks after moving into her home. The horrifying discovery came after police were called at 12.40am on Monday, 4 January, when Eileen was found in her bedroom with severe facial and head injuries.
Victim Dies Despite Hospital Efforts
Despite rapid medical treatment, Eileen died later that day. The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command launched a full investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from the night of the attack.
CCTV Captures Rawson’s Chilling Movements
The footage, though unable to see inside the bedrooms, caught Rawson wielding a metal walking stick at around 10.20pm, heading towards their rooms. He reappeared about two hours later coming from the same direction. No one else appeared on camera during that time.
A bloodstained metal walking stick, believed to be the murder weapon, was found on Eileen’s bed. Rawson, deemed unfit to stand trial, faced a jury decision over his guilt.
Sentencing Looms as Police Pay Tribute
Rawson will be sentenced on Monday, 20 December. Detective Chief Inspector Chris Wood, leading the investigation, said:
“Our thoughts remain with Eileen’s family, who have endured an incredibly traumatic experience. They conducted themselves with the utmost respect and dignity throughout the trial.
“Eileen was a completely defenceless woman whose life was cruelly taken. Despite losing her husband nearly 30 years ago, she was known as a calm, quiet, and lovely woman by all who knew her.
“We hope her family and grandchildren now have the space to grieve together and remember the wonderful woman Eileen was.”
