Hampshire Police have charged 24-year-old Stephen Nicholson from Mansel Road East, Southampton, for refusing to cooperate with officers. Nicholson faces charges under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act for failing to hand over access codes to an electronic device.

Refuses to Reveal Mobile PIN Amid Intense Investigation

Arrested by the major investigation team during the hunt for missing teenager Lucy McHugh, Nicholson is suspected of withholding information about clothing and a weapon used in the stabbing of the teen. He has spent five days at Southampton police station staying tight-lipped and refusing to disclose his phone PIN.

Because of Nicholson’s silence, authorities now have to send his mobile device to specialists to unlock its contents.

Remanded in Custody Ahead of Court Hearing

Nicholson has been formally charged and remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today.
