Man Jailed for Raping Teenage Girl in Manchester

Eight Years Behind Bars for Girmay Andes

Girmay Andes, from Moorside Street in Droylsden, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for raping a girl under 16. The sentence was handed down at Manchester Crown Court on Friday. Andes must also sign the Sex Offender’s Register for life.

Horrific Attack in Piccadilly

The court heard how Andes targeted the vulnerable victim in Manchester’s Piccadilly area. He isolated her from her friend before persuading her to go back to his home – where the assault took place.

The girl managed to contact people she knew, who alerted the authorities. Andes later tried to move her away from his property. Police tracked her down nearby, where she bravely told officers what had happened.

Andes was swiftly arrested in connection with the attack.

Police Praise Victim’s Courage

“I would like to thank the victim for finding the strength to report this matter and attend the court process, ensuring this sexual predator has been removed from the streets of Manchester and jailed,” said Detective Constable Mike Allen of GMP’s Tameside Complex Safeguarding Team.

Greater Manchester Police Stand Firm Against Sexual Crimes

Detective Allen added, “Sexual offences have long-term consequences for victims. Greater Manchester Police are dedicated to preventing this harm. Victims will be believed and supported throughout every stage of the process to bring offenders to justice and stop them from harming anyone else.”

He urged victims not to suffer in silence, saying police work closely with specialised partner agencies to ensure they are never alone.

“This outcome sends a clear message to offenders: such behaviour will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester. Authorities are committed to prosecuting sex offenders fully—locking them up and monitoring them for life.”
