Early Morning Break-In Shocker on Banning Street

A Banning Street resident woke up at 3 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022, to find her front door wide open. After a quick check, she shut it and went back to sleep – unaware her nightmare was just beginning.

Fraud Alerts Spark Alarm

At 5.36 a.m., she was hit with a notification that one of her bank cards had been used at a nearby shop. That’s when she realised her purse was missing. Minutes later, a second alert came through – another card was used at a different local store.

Suspects Nabbed by Kent Police

Kent Police were informed of the burglary at 5.43 a.m. and swiftly arrested two suspects later that morning. Rebecca Small, 34, and Jack Elliott, 32, both from Gill Avenue, Wainscott, were charged with burglary and two counts of fraud.

The pair appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 23. They’ve been released on bail with strict conditions and are due back in court on Wednesday, October 5.
