Cracks Spark Panic: 150 Evacuated from Regent’s Park Tower Block

A major structural fault triggered a mass evacuation at The Combe block in Munster Square, NW1, last night. Around 150 residents were rushed out after a loud crack was heard in a ninth-floor flat of the 19-storey building.

Emergency Response: Fire Brigade and Council Act Fast

The London Fire Brigade was called in on Thursday evening, November 21, after the alarming noise was reported. Initially, just 18 flats were evacuated, but by 10:30pm Camden Council, in coordination with fire services, ordered the entire block emptied as a safety precaution while engineers assessed the damage.

Damage Contained, Repairs Set to Begin

Specialist structural engineers arrived early Friday morning. Their checks showed the damage was limited to the one flat. Repairs are expected to kick off later today, offering hope that residents will be able to return soon.

Security fencing now surrounds the building, with emergency services having left the scene. Camden Council and responders remain on standby to ensure safety and facilitate residents’ swift return.

Help for Displaced Residents

Of the 70 households evacuated, Camden Council secured temporary accommodation for 50 residents at Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre with help from the British Red Cross. The rest are staying with family or friends. Support continues for temporary housing and essential needs.

Residents needing assistance can call Camden’s hotline at 020 7974 8865.
