Giant Drugs Haul Busted on A45: 168kg of Cocaine Seized
Detectives smashed a major drug ring after stopping a van on the A45 last December. The Met’s Specialist Crime officers, with help from West Midlands Police, uncovered a staggering 168kg of Class A drugs hidden in pallets of frozen food.
Further Finds and Two Men Arrested
The operation didn’t stop there. A raid at a Birmingham address revealed another 4kg of cocaine and MDMA, plus 1kg of cutting agent. Two men have been charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs:
- Baldev Singh Sahota, 53, from Oldbury, West Midlands
- Shakti Gupta, 34, from Quinton, Birmingham
Both pleaded guilty at Birmingham Crown Court on 9 January and face sentencing on 7 February.
Operation Targets Organised Crime Supply Chain
Led by the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, the bust was the result of detailed intelligence work suggesting the drugs were destined for London’s streets. Detectives say this is one of the largest cocaine seizures in the UK.
“The audacity of those involved and the lack of consideration for the impact of their criminality is clear,” said Detective Superintendent Neil Ballard. “We will continue to deal robustly with those seeking to exploit vulnerable people for financial gain, often fueling violent crime.”
Ballard added the Met is working closely with the National Crime Agency, regional units, and county forces to dismantle these dangerous networks.
West Midlands Police support was vital in bringing the criminals to justice.
Crackdown Sent Message to Drug Supply Networks
The authorities warn this operation sends a clear message: drug suppliers won’t escape justice. The crackdown targets not just street dealers but the whole organised crime web behind them, aiming to cut off the drug flow and protect communities from the devastation caused by drugs and related violence.
