Police are hunting for info after a holy Sikh text was found deliberately damaged outside a community member’s home in Leeds. Detectives say this is a hateful, racist attack – and they’re taking it dead serious.
Damaged Sikh Holy Book Left in Headingley
On Wednesday, July 12, a local Sikh group rep spotted the holy text wrecked on St Anne’s Road. At first, cops thought the damaged pages ended up in the victim’s bin after collection on July 11. But a closer investigation proved otherwise.
Police Launch Hate Crime Investigation
A crime is now recorded for religiously aggravated damage. Leeds District CID detectives are digging deep to find out what really happened and who’s behind the shocking act.
“Any crime motivated by hate against race or religion is treated seriously,” said Leeds District Commander Chief Superintendent Steve Dodds. “Deliberately damaging a holy text to offend the Sikh community is completely unacceptable.”
“We’re working closely with local Sikh leaders to reassure them and keep them updated.”
