Met Cracks Down on Out-of-Control Illegal Raves Across London

The Met Police are on high alert this weekend, hunting down illegal unlicensed music events (UMEs) popping up all over London. Since the huge Brixton rave on Angel Town Estate on June 25, they’ve been flooded with tips about over 530 illegal parties across the capital.

More Than 80 Illegal Raves Spotted in One Day

On Saturday, July 18 alone, the Met received reports of 86 separate UMEs. That’s roughly 23 illegal, dangerous parties every single day.

These events are risky and chaotic. They have no security, no insurance, no tickets – just masses of people crammed into estates, blaring loud music, drinking, and often using drugs. Residents are left terrified by the disruption and damage these raves cause.

Commander Adelekan: ‘UMEs Bring Violence and Fear’

“There can be no doubt these unlicensed music events are dangerous and highly disruptive for local communities,” said Commander Ade Adelekan.

“Communities caught in the middle suffer miserable nights with loud music, large crowds, alcohol, drugs and often property damage. The fear they create is totally unacceptable.

“What really worries me is the very real threat of violence. During past events, a small minority have attacked police officers, resulting in injuries.”

“We’re still facing a national health crisis. It’s crucial we all avoid mass gatherings to keep safe. Because of this, we will not stand by and allow these illegal raves to happen. They will be shut down.”

Police Take Firm Action: Seizures, Dispersals and Arrests

The Met has released gripping bodycam footage from the Brixton event and several 999 call recordings, clearly showing the violent and disruptive nature of these illegal parties and the heavy toll on local residents.

Police say they act fast as soon as they get wind of a UME. Officers work with organisers and councils to shut events down early. If organisers refuse to comply, police will seize sound systems and laptops using legislation.

They also disperse crowds and aren’t afraid to make arrests if rules are broken.

Police Need Your Help to Stop Illegal Parties

Commander Adelekan urges Londoners to report any info on illegal raves ASAP.

“The sooner we know, the faster we can move to stop these events, get crowds to leave, and seize equipment,” he said.

“Help us keep your community safe.”

If you know of a UME, call the police on 101 or anonymously on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, dial 999.
