Teen Arrested After Mill Hill Shop Worker Dies in Brutal Attack

A murder probe is underway after a shop worker, critically injured in a terrifying assault in Mill Hill, died in hospital. Detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder late on Monday, 8 January.

Attack Sparks Fatal Tragedy Outside Convenience Store

Police were called just before midnight on Saturday, 6 January, following reports of a man badly hurt on The Broadway, NW7. Officers found the 49-year-old victim lying on the pavement outside a convenience shop. Members of the public had already administered first aid before paramedics arrived.

The man was rushed to a central London hospital but sadly died in the late afternoon of Monday, 8 January.

Teen trio’s rage over refused sale turns deadly

The victim had been working alongside the shop owner when three teenage boys entered the store, attempting to buy items including cigarette papers. Suspected of being underage and unable to provide ID, they were refused service.

Fuming, the teens threatened to smash up the shop. The shopkeeper and worker stepped outside to stop damage – but the situation quickly turned violent.

One of the teenagers landed a punch on the victim, sending him crashing to the floor. The shopkeeper was also punched but escaped serious injury.

The suspects fled running along The Broadway towards Mill Hill Broadway Station.

Detective Inspector Ian Lott said: “This appears to be an unprovoked, spontaneous attack triggered solely by the refusal to sell certain items. A man has lost his life for simply doing his job.”

“If you know who these youths are or where they are, come forward now. We want to hear from anyone who saw them running away or has footage of the incident.”

Detectives continue house-to-house enquiries and are reviewing CCTV footage. The victim’s family is being supported by specialist liaison officers.
