Man Arrested After Fatal Ilford Attack – Police Hunting Witnesses

Police are urgently seeking witnesses following a deadly assault in Ilford that left a 36-year-old man dead. At 2:48am on Sunday, 12 November, officers rushed to High Road at the junction with Connaught Road after receiving reports of a fight and a seriously injured man.

Paramedics found the victim suffering critical injuries. He was rushed to a nearby east London hospital but tragically died shortly after, at 4:35am.

Victim Named as Sandel Serbu

Police have identified the victim as Sandel Serbu, a Romanian national who recently moved to the UK and lived in Barking. A post-mortem at East Ham Mortuary confirmed blunt force trauma to the head as the cause of death.

Police Appeal for Witnesses and Footage

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine, leading the probe, revealed the attackers arrived in two cars. Serbu was targeted as he stepped out of a passenger vehicle. DCI Considine said:

“We know that those responsible for this deadly assault arrived at the location in two cars. The victim was attacked as he got out of a vehicle in which he was passenger. There were a number of people, both in cars and pedestrians, who would have witnessed this attack.”

He urged anyone who saw the incident or captured video to come forward:

“I need these people to come forward and tell me what they saw. I would also like to appeal to anyone who may have captured footage of the scene or the aftermath to contact police. Your footage may hold vital evidence.”

Man, 27, Held on Suspicion of Murder

A 27-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 16 November, on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at an east London police station.
