Owami Davies Found Safe After Police Murder Probe Hits Dead End

The Metropolitan Police received a mandatory death or serious injury (DSI) referral after officers came into contact with Owami Davies on 6 July, following her being reported missing. The referral came amid a police investigation and arrests made on suspicion of her murder.

DSI Referral Dropped As Owami Is Safe and Well

An Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) spokesperson revealed the referral was later deemed invalid. With Owami found safe and no evidence of serious injury, the DSI criteria were not met. The IOPC told the Met it would take no further action.

Police Launch Review Over Owami’s Search

Commander Paul Brogden of Frontline Policing acknowledged concerns about the handling of Owami’s search. He confirmed the Met will carry out a thorough review of all their actions since she went missing.

The review will be done openly and transparently in partnership with Essex Police. Its goal? To make sure proper procedures were followed and find ways to improve future responses for missing persons cases.
