Seventy firefighters and ten fire engines raced to a blazing fire that tore through a mid-terraced townhouse converted into flats on Mangold Way, Erith this Saturday evening.
Inferno Tears Through Flats and Garage
The London Fire Brigade sprang into action at 7:16pm on May 31 after receiving 32 emergency calls from panicked residents. Crews from Erith, Bexley, and East Greenwich flooded the scene. Flames had engulfed both a flat and adjoining garage, turning the property into a fiery spectacle.
Firefighters deployed a 32-metre turntable ladder for an aerial view, helping the Incident Commander coordinate the attack on the blaze. After a fierce two-hour battle, the fire was brought under control by 9:16pm.
Massive Fire Response in Dense Residential Area
The large response was sparked by the risk of the fire spreading to neighbouring homes in this densely packed residential street. The affected building was one of several townhouses converted into flats, complicating firefighting efforts inside.
Authorities took no chances and briefly evacuated residents from nearby properties. Emergency services shut down parts of Cow Road and Mangold Way to clear the way for fire crews.
Cause Unknown as Investigation Begins
At this stage, the cause of the blaze remains a mystery. Luckily, there are no confirmed injuries reported. Fire investigators have arrived on scene to piece together what sparked the devastating fire.
The dramatic blaze ripped through a local home, leaving destruction in its wake but luckily no serious harm to residents.
