Dartford Crossing Shuts Down Overnight for Essential Maintenance
Motorists brace yourselves! The Dartford Crossing bridge will be completely closed overnight for crucial maintenance starting tomorrow. Mark your calendars for a full shutdown from 10pm on Saturday, April 6, until 5am on Sunday, April 7.
Contraflow and Diversions in Place
During the closure, all lanes on the Dartford bridge will be off limits. To keep southbound traffic moving, a contraflow system will run through the east-bore tunnel. Meanwhile, the west-bore tunnel will stay open for northbound journeys — but only one lane.
High vehicles between 4.8m and 5.0m heading northbound must take a wider detour via the M25 clockwise route. So if you’re driving a tall rig, expect to go the long way round.
Plan Ahead to Avoid Chaos
The Dartford Crossing is a key artery linking Dartford in Kent with Thurrock in Essex over the Thames on the A282 road. With this vital link closed overnight, officials urge drivers to plan alternative routes and adjust travel times to dodge delays.
“We advise all motorists to stick to traffic management instructions and navigate diversions carefully to stay safe during these works,” a spokesperson said.
Don’t get caught out. Check your route before you travel and be ready for changes this weekend.
