UK Boosts Green Investment in the Philippines with Major Partnership Launch
UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, is jetting to Manila this week (March 30-31) to ramp up British investment and strengthen ties with the Philippines. Expect big moves in green energy and infrastructure as she unveils the new British Investment Partnerships (BIP) in the country.
High-Level Talks to Supercharge UK-Philippines Relations
- Minister Trevelyan will meet President Marcos and top officials including the Foreign Affairs Secretary and environmental ministers.
- Key talks will focus on boosting defence, trade, climate action, and upgrading the UK-Philippines Enhanced Partnership.
- She will also kick off a UK-Philippines Inter-Parliamentary Dialogue with members of the House of Representatives.
Green Energy & Infrastructure Get a Massive UK Backing
The British Investment Partnerships scheme aims to pour high-quality investments into sustainable infrastructure and clean energy projects across the Philippines. It’s backed by leading UK development finance bodies like British International Investment (BII) and builds on the existing UK Mobilist programme.
The Mobilist programme alone has committed $25 million to the Philippines’ very first solar plants on Negros Island, while new partnership deals with the Philippine Stock Exchange will open fresh capital routes to power the country’s climate transition.
“The Philippines is an economic and environmental powerhouse, which stands on the frontline of climate change and other global challenges,” said Minister Trevelyan.
“Through British Investment Partnerships, we will support the development of high-quality, sustainable infrastructure to accelerate the transition to clean energy and secure a prosperous and resilient future for the Philippines.”
Maritime Security and Women’s Rights on the Agenda
During her visit, Minister Trevelyan will tour the Philippine Coast Guard headquarters and inspect a Coast Guard vessel in Manila Bay, aiming to deepen UK-Philippines cooperation on maritime security and marine conservation.
She will also attend a British Embassy event celebrating International Women’s Month to promote women’s rights and unveil the UK’s first-ever Women and Girls Strategy. The Minister will meet trailblazing women leaders from government, business, and civil society championing change.
UK’s Strong Commitment to Indo-Pacific Partnerships
This high-profile visit follows the UK government’s Integrated Review Refresh, reaffirming London’s dedication to strengthening partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region.
