Snake Surprise on Reading Driveway Shocks Local Woman
Resident’s Hair-Raising Discovery
A woman in Spencerswood, Reading, got more than she bargained for when she spotted a snake slithering on her driveway last Saturday. Shocked, she quickly called the RSPCA for help.
Neighbour to the Rescue
Before the RSPCA arrived, a quick-thinking neighbour helped trap the corn snake in a box, keeping the slithery intruder safe until animal officers showed up.
“The poor lady must have had quite a shock when she opened her door to find the snake,” said an RSPCA spokesperson. “Luckily, corn snakes are harmless and, with a little help from a neighbour, they were able to pop him into a box and wait for help.”
Escaped Pet on the Loose?
The RSPCA believes the corn snake is an escaped pet thanks to its good condition. They’re now hunting for its owners to reunite the reptile with its home.
These snakes can grow nearly six feet long and are often mistaken for the venomous copperhead – but fear not, corn snakes are completely harmless.
RSPCA Warns Owners: Secure Your Snakes!
The RSPCA also warns snake owners to ensure their cages are escape-proof. Corn snakes are notorious for sneaking out of their enclosures.
Anyone with info on the missing snake is urged to contact the RSPCA immediately.
