UK Poll Names Most Empowering Women of 2025, with Michelle Obama and Katie Piper Leading the Way
Michelle Obama, Katie Piper, and the late Dame Deborah James have been voted the most empowering female role models of 2025, according to a nationwide poll of 4,000 UK adults.
The research, conducted by Galaxy Chocolate in partnership with the Young Women’s Trust, sought to highlight the women who have inspired confidence, change, and self-belief across generations.
Also making the top 20 list were music legend Tina Turner, Olympic icon Dame Kelly Holmes, climate activist Greta Thunberg, and even fictional favourite Bridget Jones.

The poll also recognised globally influential figures like Malala Yousafzai, Maya Angelou, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as well as British favourites like actress and humanitarian Emma Thompson and mathematician Dr Hannah Fry, known for making data science accessible.
According to the study, the top three traits people value most in a role model are:
- Honesty (32%)
- Kindness (30%)
- Intelligence (27%)
These qualities resonated most with the public when defining what makes someone truly empowering.
Role Models Drive Real Change in Everyday Lives
The findings showed that 72% of women say having a female role model is important to their personal growth and confidence. Many respondents cited taking more time for themselves, pursuing leadership roles, or advocating for mental health as outcomes influenced by role models.
Romi Mackiewicz, Director at Galaxy, commented:
“We know role models play a critical role in helping lift people up and can positively impact confidence, career and even health. Our top 20 list celebrates women who have stayed true to themselves and empowered others by speaking up and standing strong, even when it wasn’t easy.”
Gen Z Looks Beyond Family for Inspiration
While older generations often look to family and close friends (48%) for guidance, Gen Z is expanding their horizons. The younger demographic cited influencers (34%), television personalities (28%), and celebrities (23%) as their most influential role models.
In terms of digital inspiration, 29% said they’re moved most by authentic content about personal struggles, while 15% are drawn to unfiltered, honest social media posts.
