Drug Dealer Behind Encrypted Operation Sentenced to 14 Years in Jail

Kingpin Kirk Douglas Slapped With 14 Years for Guns and Drugs Empire

Kirk Douglas, 43, from Southwark, has been locked up for 14 years after running a high-tech drugs and firearms racket using encrypted chats. The Inner London Crown Court handed down the sentence on Thursday, November 30.

Massive Arsenal and Cocaine Haul

Douglas wasn’t messing about. Between May and April 2020, he helped supply deadly weapons including Scorpion, Uzi, and 1-10 submachine guns, plus an array of handguns. On top of that, he pushed large quantities of cocaine, pocketing nearly £58,000 from his vile trade.

Encrypted Dark Web Network Busted

The Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime officers and Intelligence Team cracked the case by tracing the Encrochat handle ‘Lakepepper’ straight back to Douglas in April 2021. Encrochat is a secretive encrypted platform favoured by criminals, but thanks to European partners and the National Crime Agency (NCA), the network was infiltrated in 2020.

Using clever data analysis and decrypting messages, police uncovered Douglas’s central role in drug and gun deals. A raid on his home found £57,980 cash, more drugs, and damning evidence linking him to the encrypted ‘Lakepepper’ identity.

Detective Inspector Sounds Warning

“Douglas arranged large-scale drug deals to make as much money as possible, with no thought of the misery and devastation he would cause in communities because of the violence it inevitably leads to. He traded and bought firearms to protect his organised crime network,” said Detective Inspector Jon Summers of the Gangs and Proactive Unit.

“This investigation has undoubtedly prevented deadly violence that would have seriously impacted communities.”

Douglas’s confidence in encrypted phones couldn’t save him. The conviction sends a clear message that law enforcement will stop at nothing to dismantle organised crime threats.

Convicted on Multiple Charges

  • Conspiracy to transfer prohibited weapons
  • Conspiracy to possess firearms without a certificate
  • Conspiracy to supply a Class A drug
  • Possession of a Class B drug with intent
  • Possessing criminal property

This crackdown came under Operation Eternal, an intelligence-led crackdown reflecting the Met’s “A New Met for London” strategy designed to clean up the capital’s streets. Thanks to these efforts, London is safer by stopping weapons and drugs hitting communities.
