Hayes Substation Inferno Cuts Power to 17,000 Homes

Chaos hit west London overnight as a massive fire tore through an electrical substation in Hayes. The blaze sparked an explosion, leaving thousands without power and forcing dozens of residents to evacuate.

Explosion Triggers Full-Scale Emergency Response

The fire erupted early Friday morning at a construction site on Nestles Avenue. An explosion at the substation ignited flames that quickly engulfed the area. Ten fire engines, plus specialist high-volume pumps and bulk foam units, tackled the roaring inferno as emergency crews scrambled to contain the disaster.

Residents Evacuated Amid Fears of More Blasts

Local authorities ordered precautionary evacuations for dozens of homes nearby, fearing further explosions and dangerous smoke. Emergency rest centres were swiftly opened to house affected families. Meanwhile, engineers are working around the clock to restore electricity to the 17,000 darkened properties.

“This is a significant incident requiring a large-scale response. Crews are working tirelessly to bring the fire under control and reduce the impact on the surrounding community,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.

Road Closures and Travel Chaos

The fiery disaster has also wreaked havoc on local traffic. Roads around North Hyde Road and Station Road remain closed, with multiple bus routes diverted. Commuters and residents are urged to avoid the area while emergency services respond.

Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene. One local said, “There was a huge explosion just after midnight—then everything went dark. We’ve had no power since and could see flames from our window. It was terrifying.”

Investigation Launched as Police and Fire Brigade Probe Cause

The exact cause of the blast is still unknown. Authorities have not ruled out foul play or equipment failure. The London Fire Brigade and Met Police will launch a joint investigation once the site is safe.

“We understand the frustration caused by the disruption and power outage, but public safety is our top priority,” a police spokesperson said. They urged the public to stay clear of the emergency zone while crews work tirelessly to restore order.
