New Partygate Photos Hit Boris Johnson Hard
ITV has dropped fresh bombshell pictures of Prime Minister Boris Johnson raising a glass at a leaving party on 13 November 2020. The images show the PM toasting colleagues beside a table brimming with wine bottles and glasses—right in the middle of England’s second coronavirus lockdown.
Lockdown Rules Broken?
At the time, indoor gatherings of two or more people were banned unless “reasonably necessary” for work. Yet, these photos suggest otherwise. While at least one party attendee reportedly got a £10,000 fixed penalty notice, Johnson escaped a fine. The Metropolitan Police haven’t explained why the PM skated free.
Calls for Police Probe and Sue Gray Report Looms
The Liberal Democrats have fired off a letter urging the Independent Office for Police Conduct to review the Met’s handling of the Partygate investigation. Deputy leader Daisy Cooper slammed the double standards:
“If anyone else had been pictured at a party like this during lockdown, surely this would have been enough evidence for them to be fined. It does seem that there has been one rule for the prime minister and another for everyone else.”
Meanwhile, the long-awaited Sue Gray report on No 10 parties is reportedly just around the corner.
Political Fallout: PM Under Fire from All Sides
Opposition MPs claim Johnson knowingly misled Parliament when denying any Covid rule breaches at Downing Street. The Commons’ Privileges Committee has launched a probe into whether he lied to MPs—a serious charge that, under government rules, should lead to resignation if proven.
Labour’s deputy leader Angela Rayner ripped into the PM, saying he has “demeaned his office” and that “the British people deserve better.” Former Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson called Johnson’s position “untenable,” while veteran Tory MP Sir Roger Gale branded the new photos as “damning,” suggesting the PM should quit.
A No 10 spokeswoman stated the Cabinet Office and police have been given full access to all relevant information, including the new photographs.
