Magical Taxi Tour Kicks Off with Heart and Wheels
This year’s Magical Taxi Tour fired up its engines at Canary Wharf today, sending around 100 London black cabs on a joyous mission. Seriously ill children, battling chronic or life-limiting conditions, set off with their families for a magical weekend at Disneyland Paris.
From London to Disneyland: The Journey Begins
The convoy rolls from London down to Dover, where they hop on a ferry bound for Calais. From there, it’s the final stretch to the theme park, escorted by police outriders from both the City of London Police and France’s Gendarmerie Nationale to keep the journey safe and smooth.
Officer’s Emotional Farewell on Final Tour
Detective Superintendent Matt Mountford, marking 25 years on the force, is riding his last Magical Taxi Tour. Matt’s been involved since he was a police motorcyclist early in his career. “Every year creates special memories,” he said. “Seeing the joy on the faces of these wonderful kids who have so much courage is very humbling.”
Matt’s final run won’t be without sentiment — his two sons, Lucas and Leon, also police officers, will join him. “It’ll be emotional,” Matt added. “I’ll miss the camaraderie, the laughs, and especially the smiles from the kids and their families.”
Logistics, Laughter, and Lifelong Memories
Coordinating the convoy is no small feat, with past tours facing everything from vehicle breakdowns to emergencies. But with dedicated support teams, the event continues to roll on flawlessly. City of London Police Commander Umer Khan praised the effort, stating the event gives “123 children, families, carers, and cabbies a very special weekend.”
The Magical Taxi Tour, now in its 29th year, remains a treasured tradition, showcasing the generosity of London’s black cab drivers and police officers, delivering unforgettable joy to children and families alike.
