Serious Cyclist Crash Sparks Chaos on Waterloo Bridge
Emergency crews scrambled to Waterloo Bridge tonight after a nasty collision involving two cyclists near Lancaster Place just before 6pm on Tuesday, April 29. The smash sparked road closures and snarled traffic across Central London’s busiest routes.
One Cyclist in Critical Condition
The Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene following reports of the crash. A police spokesperson said:
“Police are currently on scene of a serious collision close to Trafalgar Square. Officers were called at 17:50 on Tuesday, 29 April to Lancaster Place following reports of a collision involving two bicycles. One cyclist has been taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition. Road closures remain in place in the area.”
Central London Traffic at a Standstill
Waterloo Bridge, one of London’s key crossings, ground to a halt, with gridlock spreading along Strand, Aldwych, and Victoria Embankment. Commuters and bus passengers faced severe delays as police sealed off parts of the bridge to carry out their investigation.
Police Hunt Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Officers are urgently appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward to help piece together what happened.
