Four Men Arrested After Teenage Girl ‘Drugged and Raped’ in South-West London Park

 

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of rape following the alleged drugging and sexual assault of a teenage girl in Fishponds Park, Surbiton, south-west London.

Police were called to the park just before 7.15am on Thursday, 21 August after reports of a serious assault.

Crime scene established

Forensic teams were seen combing the scene throughout the day, with officers cordoning off the park and placing a blue forensic tent inside the grounds. Detectives confirmed that a crime scene remains in place as investigations continue.

Arrests

  • A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and administering a substance with intent to commit a sexual offence.
  • A 35-year-old man and a 36-year-old man were each arrested on suspicion of rape, sexual assault, and administering a substance with intent to commit a sexual offence.
  • A 41-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of rape.

All four remain in police custody.

Victim supported

The teenage girl, whose age has not been disclosed, is being supported by specially trained officers.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“We understand this news is concerning for the community and we will be increasing patrols in the area. If you have any information, please contact 101 quoting CAD 1207/21AUG.”

Community reassurance

Local residents expressed shock at the heavy police presence in the usually quiet park, with parents voicing concerns over safety in the area. Officers have sought to reassure the public that investigations are progressing swiftly and that those suspected of involvement have been detained.
