A woman who died in a tragic collision on the M6 has been identified as 33-year-old Jade McEnroe. The crash, which involved a car traveling the wrong way down the motorway, also claimed the lives of four others, including two children.

The fatal incident occurred near Tebay services in Cumbria shortly after 4 pm when a Skoda, driving southbound on the northbound carriageway, collided with a Toyota carrying the victims. Mrs. McEnroe, a man aged 42, and two boys aged seven and 15 died at the scene. Another seven-year-old child, who was in the Toyota, survived but remains in a serious condition in hospital.

The driver of the Skoda, a 40-year-old man from Cambridgeshire, also lost his life in the collision.

Friends and family have shared tributes on social media, mourning the loss of Mrs. McEnroe. A GoFundMe page has been launched to support the family, raising over £3,600 so far.

Hayley McEnroe, a relative, shared a photo and wrote: “Can’t believe this news, you’ll be missed so much homie. In so much shock. Rest in peace, Jade.”

Investigation Ongoing

Cumbria Police have confirmed that investigations into the collision are ongoing, with digital displays on the motorway warning of an “oncoming vehicle” before the crash. Several motorists reported seeing the Skoda travelling in the wrong direction before flames and smoke erupted following the collision.

Formal identification of all victims has not yet taken place, but families have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Due to the severity of the incident, police have stated that official confirmation of identities may not occur until next week.

Witness Accounts and Emergency Response

Witnesses described the horrific scene, with some reporting seeing the Skoda swerving and then smoke and flames after the impact. Chris Isles, 58, was close to the crash and saw black smoke pouring from the vehicle.

Emergency services, including four fire engines and air ambulances, responded to the scene within minutes. One casualty was extracted and airlifted to hospital, while others were declared dead at the scene.

Cumbria Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward. They encourage witnesses to contact them, quoting incident number 146 of October 15, or call 101.

The investigation continues as the community mourns the loss of life in this tragic event.
