The A259 in East Sussex has been closed in both directions between the A27 (Pevensey) and B2182 (near Bexhill) following a Sussex Police-led incident. The closure has caused significant disruption, and drivers are being advised to follow diversion routes or delay their journeys.

Emergency Services at the Scene

The closure, which is affecting a key coastal route, involves a major response from the South East Coast Ambulance Service, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, and Sussex Police. Diversion Routes

To manage the disruption, drivers are advised to follow marked diversion symbols:

Westbound Diversion (Hollow Triangle Symbol):

  1. Exit the A259 at Belle Hill, Bexhill, onto the northbound A269.
  2. Continue on the A269 until it merges with the A271 westbound.
  3. Follow the A271 to the A22 at Lower Horsebridge.
  4. Exit the A271 onto the A22 southbound toward the A27 and Eastbourne.
  5. At the Pevensey Haven roundabout, either continue west on the A27 or return to the A259 at Pevensey.

Eastbound Diversion (Hollow Diamond Symbol):

  1. At the A259/A27 Pevensey Roundabout, join the A27 westbound toward Polegate.
  2. At the Cop Hall Roundabout in Polegate, join the A22 northbound.
  3. Continue on the A22 until reaching the Boship Roundabout with the A271.
  4. Turn right onto the A271 eastbound, merging onto the A269, and proceed through Hertsmonceux and Ninfield toward Bexhill.
  5. Rejoin the A259 eastbound at the traffic light-controlled junction at Bexhill.
