An elderly couple have been left “traumatised and scared” after three men reportedly posed as maintenance workers to gain access to their flat in Mile End before ransacking the property.
The incident occurred on Thursday, 10 April 2025, in the E1 area. According to a local resident who shared the story online, the suspects claimed there was a leak in the flat above and insisted they needed to inspect the couple’s home. While two of the men distracted the residents, the third entered the flat unnoticed and allegedly searched through rooms, stealing valuables.

The couple, who have lived in the flat for nearly 40 years, were said to be deeply shaken by the incident and are now afraid to remain in their own home.

Local resident Rakan Thuva, who has been helping raise awareness, said:
“These scumbags robbed an elderly couple in their own home. They target the elderly and disabled and need to be stopped. Please share to help ID them.”
It is believed the men may be from the Barking and Dagenham area (BnD), and efforts are being made by members of the community to gather information and identify the suspects through social media groups.
Residents in the area are being urged to stay vigilant, especially those who are elderly or vulnerable. Anyone who notices suspicious individuals or who may have information about this incident is asked to contact the Metropolitan Police via 101, or report anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
This is a developing story. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
