A serious collision on the A27 at Falmer, Brighton, has caused significant traffic disruption throughout the day. Emergency services, including Sussex Police and National Highways, have been on the scene managing the situation and working to reopen the road.

Long queues of up to three miles were reported earlier as traffic built up in both directions due to the closure.
The eastbound carriageway on the A27 has reopened, while the westbound remains closed. Sussex Police expect the westbound side to reopen later in the afternoon. They advised motorists to use alternate routes while emergency services continued their work.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “The A27 in East Sussex is closed in both directions between the B2123 (Falmer) and the A23 (Brighton) due to a serious collision. All emergency services including Sussex Police are in attendance. National Highways contractors will also be assisting with traffic management.
They added that the road is expected to remain closed well into the afternoon, advising motorists to plan ahead, consider alternative routes, or delay their journeys.
The A27 at Falmer Hill was closed both ways following a crash at the B2123 The Drove (Falmer / Rottingdean Junction), near the Amex Stadium. Severe delays were reported in both directions, causing congestion throughout the area.
