Police are urgently appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a grave incident on the A41 North Western Avenue in Watford, where a shooting took place last evening, Thursday, July 25.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 5:20 PM near Junction 5. A man in his 20s, riding a southbound e-bike, sustained life-threatening injuries following an altercation involving occupants of a black BMW. The vehicle in question fled the scene towards the M1 shortly after the incident.
Emergency services promptly responded, and the injured man was rushed to the hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. Following the incident, extensive road closures were implemented in both directions to facilitate a thorough investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Katie Dounias of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit emphasized the urgency of gathering information. We urge anyone who was in the vicinity around the time of the incident and witnessed the occurrence or who has dashcam footage to come forward. Information about the black BMW seen at the time is particularly valuable,” she stated.
Local authorities have acted swiftly in response to the shooting. Arrests have already been made in connection with the incident,” Watford Chief Inspector Andy Wiseman confirmed. He also linked this event to other recent acts of targeted violence in the area, highlighting an ongoing pattern that is now under detailed investigation.
As the community reels from this violence, additional police forces have been deployed in the area to provide reassurance and aid in the ongoing investigations. The A41 is expected to remain closed from Woodmere Avenue to the Berrygrove roundabout throughout Friday, July 26.
