A major fire broke out at a care home in Central Parade, Herne Bay this morning, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
The fire, which started on the second floor and spread to the roof space, was tackled by eight fire engines and two height vehicles from Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS).
At 11:50am, firefighters confirmed the blaze had been extinguished, but four fire engines remain on the scene to damp down remaining hotspots.
Mass Evacuation and Emergency Response
A total of 56 residents were safely evacuated by fire crews and care home staff. One individual required medical attention and has been handed over to South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) paramedics.
The response involved multiple partner agencies, including:
- Kent Police
- UK Power Networks (Electrical safety engineers)
- Gas safety engineers
- Local authority officers
How the Fire Was Tackled
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used high-pressure hose reel jets and main jets to bring the flames under control.
A height vehicle was deployed to access the roof space, preventing further spread.
Cause of Fire Unknown
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigations are expected to continue once the site is deemed safe.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid the area while emergency crews remain at the scene.
