Shop Roof Crashes Onto First Floor

Firefighters were rushed to George Lane in South Woodford after the roof of a shop with flats above collapsed during renovation work. The roof came crashing down onto the first floor, sparking major alarm.

Neighbours Evacuated as Precaution

Two people escaped the building before crews arrived. Firefighters promptly evacuated 11 residents from nearby properties to keep everyone safe. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported.

One Woman Treated for Shock

London Ambulance Service treated one woman for shock at the scene. Fire Station Commander Shaun Fox confirmed the situation:

“The roof of the building collapsed into the first floor. Our Urban Search and Rescue crews were on scene and a 25m cordon was put in place as a precaution.”

A police search dog carried out a thorough external sweep, and officials are confident no one was trapped inside.
